While writing 500 Words the news changes so quickly it’s out of date before I’m done. I was going to lead with this:
A fetus cut from a corpse is different than giving birth.
Adriana Smith and her family were denied any shred of dignity in her death. Because of Georgia’s newly enacted draconian abortion laws, the brain dead woman was treated like an incubator (against her family’s wishes) given a c-section and only then was her life support terminated after 4 months. If they could have treated her medical crisis she’d be nursing her baby boy, who btw was born prematurely at 1lb 13oz from the shell of his mother.
Then within days we heard of our Middle East airstrike done without Congressional approval to the tune of $300,000,000 that was not as portrayed, successful in “obliterating” Iran’s nuclear facilities. We’re on the brink of war and there’s b-list Fox personalities in the situation room with the First Felon’s ear and “I may do it, I may not…Nobody knows… Stay tuned”- the strategy of a gameshow host is America’s position.
We can afford that and birthday parades but not suicide hotlines
or food for kids?
In a recent hearing U.S. District Judge William Young (a Reagan appointee) ruled that anti woke is just racism, calling cuts to funding for National Institutes of Health research grants “illegal” and “void” and ordered the NIH to restore the funds immediately.
“I am hesitant to draw this conclusion—but I have an unflinching
obligation to draw it—that this represents racial discrimination and discrimination against America’s LGBTQ community. That’s what this is. I would be blind not to call it out. My duty is to call it out.”
“I’ve never seen a record where racial discrimination was so palpable. I’ve sat on this bench now for 40 years and have never seen government racial discrimination like this. You are bearing down on people of color because of their color. The Constitution will not permit that…. Have we fallen so low? Have we no shame?”
Adding to the distraction days later the Senate passed the tangerine toddler’s “big beautiful bill”. Here’s a sample of what’s hidden in plain sight:
- Power to delay OR CANCEL ELECTIONS LEGALLY
- Power to ignore Supreme Court rulings for a year
- Protests can be TRACKED and CRIMINALIZED
- Judges cannot enforce their own orders
- Cancel broadcast licenses for media stations critical of him
- Fire federal employees that didn’t vote for him
Not everyone can be in the rooms where these deals are being cut but when the will of the Vox populi is ignored America needs to show up. The fact that so many of our neighbors share this paranoia and hatred is most concerning. Food security, energy costs, healthcare and democracy itself are being weaponized and supporting Donnie is more important to Republicans than supporting their constituents.
How they don’t see the grift is beyond me.
In Kentucky alone 20,000 healthcare workers and the bedrocks of their communities will be out of jobs. 25 rural hospitals are @ risk of closing and 200,000 people will be thrown off Medicaid. If your not a Medicaid recipient and think it won’t affect you, your private health insurance won’t do you any good if you have nowhere to go.
And the Senator from that state, Mitch the Bitch’s response?
“They’ll get over it.”
Yeah, no.
