“What has disturbed me the most is the willingness of the people in this body to roll over as the Constitution, our most sacred document, is pushed aside.”- Senator Elissa Slotkin speaking to Congress one month into her term. She’s spent her career working under 4 defense secretaries gathering and analyzing intelligence and has 3 tours of Iraq under her belt.
The Republican plan to strip Medicaid coverage for over 10 million people to pay for billionaires tax breaks led to another Slotkin quote: “Billionaires are leading this administration around by the nose”.
Musk personally benefits by firing the overseers investigating his companies. Gone are suits from the FAA regarding Starlink and over 300 Tesla complaints are gone from the Consumer Finance Protection Agency, 66 of which were filed in the last year. The gutting of the Department of Labor, Interior, EPA, Security and Exchange Commission and Office of Government Ethics has led to numerous other investigations being dropped and the conflict of interest is obvious.
Besides Trump and Elon, who gets to fire the people investigating them?
How do you allow the suspension of due process? How are you good with the brain drain that is occurring as we fire our best scientists? On that note, 3 esteemed Yale professors that study fascism are leaving the country.
130k federal workers have been fired in the last 2 months. A brain dead woman is being kept alive in Georgia against the family’s wishes because she’s pregnant. We’re defunding vital research, crippling ongoing programs designed to feed and help children and the question must be asked “who voted for this?”
The DOJ is in complete alignment with the White House. It should be noted that Pam Bondi worked as a lobbyist for Qatar @ as did FBI director Kash Patel. How else to explain approving Qatar’s nearly half a billion dollar bribe for a new (Con)Air Force One. They both are shilling for the White House as Stephen MIller’s wet dream of being a present day Hermann Göring comes true.
May they face their own Nuremberg.
Our Secretary of Health (the one with a worm in his brain) takes his family for a swim in sewage, says people shouldn’t take medical advice from him, and that his bossman, not doctors or scientists will decide policy. Fox News has 23 former employees in the present administration including Secy of Defense, Secy of Transportation and DC US Attorney. Each TV personality more unqualified than the next.
Teachers buy school supplies out of their own pocket while CEO’s write off private jets and judges are indicted for following the rule of law. As Hil-dog says, “No one gives someone a 400 million dollar jet without expecting something in return.” Jamie Raskin calls it “A flying monument to foreign emoluments. A crypto coin scam benefiting Trump’s family- with just one Chinese investor spending $300,000,000. Lucky the enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act has recently been frozen.
There’s insider trading by members of Congress and the Cabinet with non pubic knowledge. His kids are making lucrative private deals in the Middle East and Donnie answers “I don’t know” to the question if he “must uphold the Constitution?” and crickets from SCOTUS.
We see through the grift but the guardrails are off. Constituti-what?
At least they’re not eating the cats anymore but by taking democracy for granted we downplay these crimes against it and us at our own peril. It’s no surprise we’ve stopped trusting the system. In times like these apathy is not an option.
